twas a beautiful october day with crimson leaves on the gravel roads and sunny rays cutting through the stands of birch trees. my mommie told me it was a day to give thanks to the creator for all the good things in our lives. My ista said it was an excuse to have turkey and pumpkin pie … I liked both of their reasons. So, while ista and I watched treehouse under the covers, mommie was up early making fresh pumpkin pie from scratch. When I heard her cracking eggs, I had to climb out of the bed and help….I like cracking eggs. First mommie chopped up the pumpkin and cooked it on the stove, then she made a pie crust, which she did over and over again to ‘get it just right’, she said. Once the pumpkin was cooked, I got to crack eggs, pour in maple syrup, spice and yogurt mmmm. And, I got a little lick of the spoon. As that was baking, mommie moved onto making stuffing, cleaning and dressing the turkey and putting that into the oven. She said it had to be in the oven for 4 hrs, so we were going to go for a nice fall drive … we ended up at Home Depot and a flea market, go figure! mommie found a pie tin for .25 cents, so now she can make pies in a real tin, rather than a deep dish glass baking dish that she had been improvising with. I paid for it out of my piggie bank. I was sleepy on the way home, so ista and I went for a nap while mommie split wood in the backyard with chasee and cosmo. We need to have lots of wood ready for our fireplace, cause ista says it is going to get really cold and snowy. The house smelled soooo good while I was sleeping, I could barely stay in my crib (and ista could barely sleep too!) We set the table and had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and a really nice carrot coleslaw that ista made. We set an extra place for all our friends and family who are usually with us … we miss you all. After we ate, chasee and cosmo got a whole bunch of scraps, for which they were really ‘thank’ful for. We were so stuffed, we went out for a walk down the gravel lane, kicked leaves and raced to the stop signs. Mommie had to stop running cause she said she had a turkey stitch….When we got back, it was dark and we started a fire and dug into the pumpkin pie … what a perfect ending to a HOLLY Day!
