my mommie tells me stories at bedtime. Most of the time she just jumbles words together that don’t seem to make any sense, but lately, one story in particular has become my favorite. I can say almost all the words, and when mommie goes too slow, I remind her of what comes next. It seems like everytime she tells it, the version changes a little, but it all ends the same. And, to be sure I am remembering it properly, I’ve made mommie tell me this one over and over and over, until I fall asleep. She keeps telling me that she’ll write it down, and ista will draw pictures to match, so I’ll never forget … but I like to remember it in my head so I can dream of it when I sleep. One time, I woke up in the middle of the night, and mommie told me I said “moon” .. I must have been dreaming of my favorite story. Here’s the way she told it tonight :
one dark night, the fisherprince was on his way home. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the moon was following him. He said to the moon, “hi moon, how are you” and the moon said, “I am fine, fisherprince” after a little more thought, the fisherprince asked another question .. “moon, why are you following me?” And the moon replied, “do you see my friends the stars?” “yes”, said the fisherprince “they are beautiful and fill the sky” the moon agreed and said ” the stars are your friends too and they will help me light your way home” the fisherprince thought that this was very nice of the moon and stars and thanked them for their company for his walk home. The fisherprince set out once again, and every now and then he looked over his shoulder to see if the moon was still following him. Sure enough, the moon was close and the stars were brightly lighting his way home. When he arrived, the fisherprince looked up into the sky and said “thank you moon and stars for getting me home safely” they replied together “our pleasure” The fisherprince smiled and asked one more question. “Moon, if I need to find my way home again, on another dark night, will you be there?” the moon looked at his friends the stars, and said “fisherprince, we will always be in the sky to guide you home, just look over your shoulder and we will be there” the fisherprince was satisfied with the moon’s answer and told him so. “Goodnight, moon. Goodnight, stars” and the fisherprince went happily inside to his bed.
