The Biking Fiasco

A STORY BY FISHERBOWL

ONE DAY…

Me and my family were going on a trip to go fishing. luckily, Lake Mississippi is only across the highway, so it was a short distance away. Me and my mom were biking, and silly her, was riding the bike AND walking the dog at the same time. I didn’t see how this could end well. We made it all the way across the highway and about 100yrds down. all of the sudden,  a dog comes barking out at our dog, Sonney. Sonney ignored the other dog. Then, at the next house, a big black dog comes RUNNING full speed towards Sonney. Sooney, in panic, starts running up the road. This causes my Mom to lurch forward on her bike. I saw the back tire of her mountain bike lifting higher and higher of the ground. She does a full flip with her bike, and squashing her underneath. Luckily she didn’t get hurt. All of this happened in about 30 seconds. I looked at Sonney, running away with her leash dragging behind him. I abandon my bike, it slips into the ditch. I got 11th in cross country that year, so I can run fast. I started sprinting after Sonney, ignoring my Moms cries to stop chasing Sonney. I am only 2 steps behind the leash. I foolishly thought of stepping on the leash, but luckily I didn’t. I bent down, while running, and snatched the end of the dragging leash handle. But Sonney was running too fast. I fell, and, still dragging behind Sonney, body-surfed along the gravel road. Sonney, after 15 seconds, stopped running. I was scratched, messy, cut, bleeding, tired, and crying. My Mom ran up to me, scratched and bleeding, too, to see if I was OK.  We got in the car, and drove home to clean up.

I remembered later that I saw a woman sitting outside, on her deck in her chair, watching the whole thing. didn’t even come and ask If we were alright.

jeez.
