Setting: The Stewart Elementary School, Perth, ON, Canada. Mid-July, 2013. Approx. 10:30 AM. Ottawa Fury Soccer Camp. -Fisher, age 7
It was another day, day 3 to be exact, of the Ottawa Fury soccer Camp. We were about to get into a scrimmage, but the instructors were telling us to try one more thing before going to do our game. They wanted us to try this trick. The rainbow flick? huh? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Well, it looks like the instructors are getting an older camper to demonstrate it. WOW! that looks cool. Now we have to try that. ‘”Roll it up your leg with your other foot, then… KICK your leg out. And its SUPPOSED to go over your head and land in front of you, but… nope. nope. nope nope nope a billion times. nope. Well, I’ll keep practicing it at home.
Three years later…
God. practicing 3 years, and I have only actually done it twice. Twice! In 3 years! Keep practicing, then.
Here we go. This.. Up…. kick…. over….? YES! I did it! ha ha! Practicing works!
Later in the year…
This is awesome! I can do the Rainbow’ any time I want!
Hey, we have a game tonight.
At the game…
Pass! Pass! I’m open! thanks. Stop position. Not A very good thing to be doing in a game, but, whatever. ‘Flick Position, Up… kick.. OVER! over the defense! I did it! I can hear the ‘whoahhhhh”s of the crowd. Here comes the ball, SHOOT! Goal!!!!!!!! YES! I DID IT! HAHAHA! WHOOP!
From then on, Fisher can do the Rainbow Flick. He can even do it with a pen. Sometimes.
